2014 CrossFit Open: Letter to My Daughter(s)

2013 was a rough year for your dad. I had a disappointing 2013 CrossFit season, contracted Lyme Disease, and had my 3rd major knee surgery. As 2014 approached I decided I was going to sit out this year, focus on other athletic goals, and rebuild my knee. In all honesty I doubted my ability to compete and was scared of what type of athlete I would be after last year. For the first time in my athletic career, I doubted myself.
"My biggest fear in life is that you or your mom would ever be disappointed in me. I thought if I was unable to qualify for Regionals that would be the case. But as I watch you grow and see how you pay attention to what we do in the garage, I know my fear should not be missing the cut for Regionals, but the fear of you seeing me quit."
So I have decided to register, throw my hat in the ring and see how it plays out. I may qualify for my 4th straight Regional or I may be the 455th fittest man in the Central East. Whatever the case I tried my best and hope I make you proud.
