WELCOME TO APACHE CROSSFIT GAVIN!!![]() Our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery are with Kevin Ogar. Kevin was injured in a freak accident at the 2014 OCT in Southern California this past weekend. This accident severed his spinal cord at T11-12. He has no feeling or voluntary movement below the waist. Kevin is currently a Coach at CrossFit Unbroken in Colorado. What happened to Kevin was a freak accident, and an accident at that. The severity of his injuries could certainly make a non-CrossFitter or non-weightlifter very skeptical, and rightfully so. Many will argue that olympic weightlifting is highly complex and should be left to specialists. Complex indeed, but below is a list of not so complex sports that rank to be the 15 Most Dangerous Sports in America as per the U.S. Consumer Produce Safety Commission. The Top 15:
Defending CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting can take up a good portion of the day to those looking in from the outside, but its something we as a community will do. Kevin, although not personally known was a phenomenal athlete who obviously dedicated many years of hard work to get to the level of competition he is currently at. This should serve as an eye opener to many of the safety precautions to take while inside the gym. Regardless of your skill level, or your "mastery of specialized and highly complex movements", an accident can occur. With that being said, we wish Kevin Ogar and his family all the best.
