The new goal board is up and ready to go! You'll notice some differences compared to the 2014 board so I wanted to write a little to let everyone know why the change. I moved the old board to make room for barbells and was looking at it and the goals that were on it, many accomplished, others still not yet attained and I started thinking. I saw some goals that simply said a movement like "double unders" or goals like "get better at everything." I started thinking about what we could do differently to attack these goals and make them more attainable. I took a break and started scrolling through Instagram, wasting time, and I saw some quote I didn't really pay much attention to and I kept scrolling. Luckily someone reposted it and I saw it again a minute later and realized exactly what most of our goals are missing... a timeline.
How can we hold ourselves accountable if we don't have a timeline for our goals. If we just put some movement up there and not a time to accomplish it in then it could just become some arbitrary thing that we may not work to accomplish.
Would you work differently to accomplish your goals if there was a due date? I know I would. If that goal was on a gigantic whiteboard in the gym that everyone can see I'd probably work even harder.
The new board, as you can see, has a column for your name, your goal, the date you'd like to complete the goal by and the date you actually completed it. That last column is important whether you accomplish your goal early or a little late as it means you worked hard for something and were able to complete it. We love to recognize all your PRs and accomplished goals and I'm sure your fellow athletes would like to do the same so when you do reach your goal make sure to fill out that last column. Your success means a lot to everyone at APACHE.
What to do now? Think about your goals and what kind of timelines you'd have for them. Can your goal be accomplished in 6 months? One month? One week? Think about it, put it on the board and see where you're at right now. If "double unders" is your problem don't just write "double unders." Instead write down that you want to do 3 unbroken double unders by next week and spend time this week working on those damn double unders! I'm sure you'll work hard to get them.
I encourage you to come up with your own goals but also look at the board every now and then and ask your fellow athletes how they're doing on theirs. The support that you all have for each other is amazing and I think this will only make it better.
